·Abdominaperineal
Resection(APR): removal of the rectum and anus with a
portion of the sigmoid and a permanent colostomy.
·Colonoscopy:
an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large
intestine (colon) and rectum.
·Colostomy:
creation of a stoma(connection of the intestine thru the
abdominal wall) so that a patients stool empties into a
closed bag.
This is created using the colon.
It can be permanent or temporary.
·Colostomy:
a surgical opening created by bring the
colon out to the surface of the skin of the abdominal wall.
Intestinal waste passes out of the
colostomy and is collected in an external pouching
system(may be permanent or temporary).
·Excision
of Anal Condyloma:
removal of anal condyloma(warts).
·Fistulotomy:
repair of a fistula.
·Hemorrhoidectomy:
removal of external and/or internal hemorrhoids.
·Ileocolnic
Resection: removal of the ileum/or portion and a portion of
colon.
·Ileostomy:
creation of a stoma.
·Ileostomy:
a surgical
opening constructed by bring the ileum out to the surface of
the skin of the abdominal wall.
Intestinal waste passes out of the
ileosty and is collected in an external pouching system
which is stuck to the skin(may be permanent or temporary)
·Low
Anterior Resection: removal of the sigmoid colon and portion
of the rectum.
·Proctectomy:
removal of the rectum.
·Right
Colectomy: removal of the right side of the colon.
·Left
Colectomy: removal of the left side of the colon.
·Salphingo-oopherectomy:
removal of fallopian and ovaries.
·Sigmoidectomy
and Rectopexy: removal of the sigmoid colon and
fixing/tacking the rectum to the sacrum.
·Sigmoid
Colectomy/Sigmoidectomy: removal of the sigmoid colon.
·Spincterotomy:
division of a small portion of the internal sphincter.
·Sphincteroplasty:
reconstruction using the patient
scar tissue to reconstruct the normal sphincter.
·Stricturoplasty:
a surgical technique to open up a
narrowed segment of bowel.
·Total
Abdominal Colectomy: removal of the entire colon, leaving
the rectum in place.
·Total
Abdominal Colectomy with Ileorectal Anastomosis: removal of
the entire colon and connection of the ileum(small bowel) to
the rectum.
·Total
Abdominal Colectomy with end Ileosty: removal of the entire
colon leaving the rectum in place and an ileosty.
·Total
Proctoclectomy: removal of the entire colon and the rectum.
·Total
Proctocolectomy with permanent Ileostomy: removal of the
entire colon and rectum; anus with a permanent ileostomy.
·Total
Proctocolectomy with Ileoanal J-pouch and a loop ileostomy:
removal of the entire colon and rectum
with creation of a reservoir out of the patients ileum(small
bowel) which is then attached to the anus.
A temporary ileostomy is used to divert
the fecal stream.
·Transverse
Colectomy: removal of the transverse colon.
·Transanal
Endoscopic Microsurgery: A minimally invasive surgical
technique that allows removal of polyps and small cancers
from the rectum that are too large to removal by
colonoscopy.
